venue facilities

What Should I bring?

Girls School Cinema is a licensed venue and you will be asked for proof of age to gain entry.

Bring with you valid photo ID for entry, your movie tickets (on phone or printed) and your wallet if you’re planning on buying drinks or snacks.

It can get cold in the cinema, so some warm clothes and a blanket are advised. We’ll have a limited supply of blankets.

You can’t bring your own chairs. If you’ve got accessibility requirements, see our accessibility page before booking.

How do I get there? Where do I park?

Girls School Cinema is housed in the heritage Old Perth Girls School building that sits at the highest point of East Perth at 2 Wellington Street.

Entry to the cinema includes parking for the first 50 cars, after that there is a huge City of Perth carpark across the road with the cheapest rates in the city.

The YELLOW CAT Bus Stop 29 is outside the front door and RED CAT Bus Stop 3 is across the road. The building is a 5 – 15 minute walk from McIver and Claisebrook train stations depending on how game ready your power walk is.

If you’re catching the train in and forgot to bring your sneakers, we recommend taking a free CAT bus from Perth central train station and get dropped at the front door.

Check out our Getting Here page for more info.

Is the venue 18+ only?

Yes – Girls School Cinema is a licensed venue and you will be asked for proof of age to gain entry.

Minors will only be able to enter under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian. The minors’ legal parent or guardian must provide entrance for them and must stay for the duration of the film.

The rating of the film takes precedence, so for example if the film is MA15+ they must be over 15 to attend, regardless of whether the minor with a parent or not.

What proof of ID will I need for entry?

Girls School Cinema is a licensed venue and you will be asked for proof of age to gain entry.

Can I bring my friend who is under 18?

Nope. Sorry! Minors will only be able to enter under the supervision of a parent or legal guardian.

What is the seating and vibe?

Girls School Cinema aims to offer something a little different and a boutique alternative to megaplex mono culture. We’re creating a cinema experience that hopefully feels like a huge flix and chill party in the loungeroom of your mate's place, if your mate is the Great Gatsby.

The décor for the cinema is heritage pop-invasion inspired with colourful beanbags strewn across the historical hall, little personalised tables for you to perch your bevie and popcorn on and free snuggle blankets if you want to get reeaaallllyyy cooomfffyyy. They come in single as well as double sizes depending on how your date night is going.

Is seating reserved?

Seating is unreserved - it’s first come, best dressed. We can’t reserve beanbags, sorry.

What time should I get there?

Doors open at 6:00pm, and the film starts at 7:15pm. Late Saturday night films will commence at 9:30pm. We recommend getting there as early as you can to choose your seat and purchase drinks and snacks.

When does the season end?

Our last film will show on the 29th of September 2018.

What food and drinks are available?

There is a bar and candy bar operating before and during the film selling Gage Roads beers and Madfish wines along with popcorn and yummy sweet treats

Toastface Grillah and Suppa Club are providing us with toasted sandwiches and soup for those who are after a light meal

Click here to see our candy bar menus

What about my food allergies?

While we try to cater for everyone all of our food is prepared in a small kitchen area so there is always a chance of cross contamination. For your reference:

Suppa Club soups are gluten free (skip the bread) and either vegetarian or vegan

Toastface Grillah provide vegetarian options

Popcorn is vegan and gluten free

Can I BYO food and alcohol?

You can take in bottled water, but not your own food or drink. Our bar and candy is stocked with goodies – our food and drink menus can be found on our Food & Drink page.

Do you accept EFTPOS?

Yes – box office, bar and candy bar accept EFTPOS.
